Which one to be? A drummer or a guitarist? It was the 80's torturing dilemma most beginners were faced with when taking up a music instrument. It was at the time when rock was setting in stone its glorious chapter that the thrill of the sounds of legends such as Jimmy Hendrix , Iron Maiden and the Doors reached my ears. By then my shaking hand struggled to form its first chords on a classical guitar trying to imitate my heroes at the age of 14.Was tutored my first classical guitar lessons, which unfortunately proved unexciting, when still a high school student until the age of 17 which witnessed my first electric guitar with high hopes that the music nestled deep inside me would find expression in this new instrument. It came true with the help of my teacher at the time Makis Arplianitis, a Berkley College graduate who by way of his knowledge, skills and methodology provided me with the key to the music doors.Within a few months my first school performance in a band was a fact I will not fail to remember. Failing hands once on stage seemed to give way to the question hammering in my head " Sure you know what you're doing?". The clear loud sound of JJ Cale's Cocaine first notes pitched like Christian church happy bells to an Easter ritual of the birth of Christ unfolded in front of me 'music playing' as the purpose I had been searching for in life.The years of military service constituted a different kind of learning experience which led me to music trails I never thought existed whereby came encounters with musicians of the Greek music school : Hpeirotiki, Pontiaki, Kritiki, Laiki, Byzantine among others. The Greek school thrives on a different musical expression with the guitar assigned an orchestrating role. My first job as a musician followed in 1989.The 1992 encounter with Nektario Zeibekis (drummer) and Dimitris Leivadis ( bassist) resulted in the formation of 'Blues Satellites'. A band marked by strong influences like that of Stevie Ray Vaughan and more generally influences rooted in the amplified blues among others . Celebrated Athenian haunts as well as other famous clubs throughout Greece: An Club, West Club, Genesis, Hi-Hat, Be-Bop, Hxos, Maskes,Onokio, Appalossa just to name a few soon became venues for our band's performances initially appearing as a trio and later with the addition of Giorgos Theodoropoulos ( keyboard) as a quartet.In January of 1998 appearances continue under the new name KESNIO, a baptism given by Nikos Garavelas- Love Radio music producer. The word 'Kesnio' in the language of American Indians stands for 'eagle' thus the band takes its first steps into country territory.In 1999 the band's bassist D. Leivadis as well as the key board player G. Theodoropoulos left the band the latter to take up a tempting offer of work from ??? ?a? . It obviously cast clouds over the band's musical bonding achieved and temporized our decision on a bassist substitute for my friend and ex band member Dimitris and Giorgos as well. Not until the band in the name of Panagioti Tampourlous and Kostas Sihamis returned to normal manpower did it start appearances around Athenian rock haunts.The advent of the new millennium took me to England to try my luck in the homeland of rock. An unparalleled experience of music sessions with well-known musicians of the British rock and blues music scene disrupted by an unexpected return to Greece necessitated by imperative family issues. The dream seemed dashed. I formed my band again but its sinewy initial energy had been lost.. Our last performance was recorded in the first Greek country festival ever which was held in Karpenisi in August of 2003 among other bands such as Michael Dawtson, Gakis and the Heartbreakers, Replete Bros. organised by Nikos Garavelas.The last three years I have been appearing in many Athenian clubs with various players. The advantages of using computerized music programmes to work independently guided myself towards familiarising with music programmes with a view to setting up a home studio and completing own creative work.
