The neglected façade of an old Armenian church,
Shadowy figures, cigarette smoke drifts with
fragments of conversation.
The urgent tinkle of a bell!
Two’s and three’s break away,
Pass the lighted portal,
Filter down the steep stone stair
to notes from instruments being tuned.
A violin, an oud, a clarinet.
Oh do not ask what is it,
