Silver Surfer first appeared in Fantastic Four 48 in 1966.
Below is a quote from the wonderful Mr. Doug Jones
( http://www.thedougjonesexperience.com/silversurfer.htm )
"The Silver Surfer, who symbolizes the highest aspirations of the spirit, represents Marvel's most sincere effort to elevate the super hero genre. This noble, contemplative, unselfish character is an anomaly in the slam-bang world of comic books, and as such he has proven to be something of an acquired taste, a character who appeals primarily to older and comparatively sophisticated readers....when this benevolent alien first appeared he was....[an] observer of human folly....The Surfer was indeed a tragic figure, yet he never lost his essential innocence. The character first appeared in 1966, drawn by Jack Kirby as an afterthought for a story that was already plotted; writer Stan Lee immediately fell in love with The Silver Surfer, and for years would allow nobody else to create his inimitably high-minded dialogue. Eventually Lee and artist John Buscema invented a background for "The Sentinel of the Spaceways," and revealed that he was originally Norrin Radd, a restless inhabitant of a utopian planet, Zenn-La. When his race was threatened by the all-consuming Galactus , Norrin Radd saved the day by offering to aid the menace in his endless quest for the worlds to devour. In sacrificing himself twice, once for his own people, and again for humanity, The Silver Surfer took on Christ-like qualities. The selflessness that made him so admired has finally been rewarded, and today he is free to soar among the stars."
I hope most if not all of you are able to essentially share my feelings of happiness about the Rise of the Silver Surfer movie. Doug Jones has mentioned how when the Silver Surfer was created, for years Stan Lee wouldn't allow anyone other than himself to write "his inimitably high-minded dialogue." Doug Jones is a fitting choice for the role of the Silver Surfer, for his caliber is most rare as an actor, and while i am sure Doug's delivery of the Silver Surfer's high-minded dialogue would've been almost matchless, and while we all would've liked to have experienced Doug's inimitable talent shine through also in the soliloquy of the Silver Surfer, at least a respectable actor with as much depth as Laurence Fishburne was chosen for the voice.
While to a devout fan of the Silver Surfer such as myself, some things especially at first seem a bit disappointing about the movie, overall i think Tim and everyone did a fantastic (yes, fantastic) job.
The main thing is that the movie was able to convey the fact that the story of the Silver Surfer and Galactus is a deep and profound one. Galactus being depicted as cloud-like or for instance the Silver Surfer being powerless without his board are at first frustrating, but on second thought i realized it would take an entire Silver Surfer movie to have had everything completely and accurately make sense and be taken seriously. The depiction of Galactus as cloud-like was in fact the most perfect solution for fitting him into part of a movie other than a feature-length movie completely devoted to the Silver Surfer. It has been written that not all civilizations perceive Galactus the same, and his having been spawned into the world by the sentience of the previous universe (before the big bang) has made him a force of nature beyond good or evil. In the short amount of time available to Galactus, the movie was indeed able to convey him as a profound force of nature to be taken seriously.
While we all mostly make ourselves out to be the protagonist in the story of our lives, i like being able to identify with the goodness of the Silver Surfer while trying to remember to not let outside factors in life bring me down too much. We too often are found with devastating factors in life, but comparable to Galactus (like the Silver Surfer, as the FF would've discovered), these devastating factors are often impersonal and while they are things to be dealt with they are not always to be taken as being personally out to get us.

These guys are awesome, huh? You can see a third video wtih Luca "Lazylegz" Patuelli under my video favorites, that he uploaded himself. Oh yeah and also of course be sure to peep him with the "Misfitz" in his battling scene in the Jamie Kennedy movie Kickin it Old Skool!
In the video below, it is really great of all the guys how they address topics relating to perspective, disability, ability, enablement, creativity, and facility. I particularly like how they address ideas for media-center development to be made available to those with disabilities.
One person in the video is under my top friends and is one of the most warm, coolest, brilliant, remarkable people ever, Victor Pineda. Allso check out my video favorites to see Victor speak in the video covering the United Nations convention and the advancement of human rights for those with disabilities, and further, in addition to the UNICEF video, please also check out Victor's truly wonderful Victor Pineda Foundation.
