About Me
..
Created in 1973 by students of the Bucharest Conservatoire “Ciprian Porumbescuâ€, the choir-group SONG has gone on displaying its activity within the framework of the Faculty of Germanic Languages of the Bucharest University.
Since 1977 onwards, as the number of its members has been ever growing, comprising also students coming from nearly all the High Schools in Bucharest, the choir-group displays its activity within the Students House of Culture as it has got the status of a representative ensemble of the University Center in Bucharest. Its specific way of interpretation has ensured the choir-group’s success even from the very first performances. In 1974 the five members of the group were students of the Conservatoire.
The initiative had been taken by Ioan LUCHIAN MIHALEA, by then still a student. The choir-group comprises 50 members who are both students and pupils in Bucharest (the latter ones having ever maintained their chance of becoming afterwards students too), and whose concerns are, of course, most various ones. However, their great pleasure of singing together makes them gather almost every day of rehearsals, performances, recordings, tours, holidays…and again rehearsals! The freshness, the warmth, the sincerity, the “outbreak†of their youth, the originality of the specific adequate ways of interpreting each piece in turn, make every performance of the choir-group on the stage rank as a real artistic achievement!
Numerous first prizes won by them at various stages in the National Festival of Students Art, more than 1000 performances, both at home and abroad, their co-operation to the play “Raceala†(“The Coldâ€) by Marin Sorescu, given by the theatre “Lucia Sturdza Bulandraâ€, with the great rock band “PHOENIX†too, in 1992, with the wonderful group “DIVERTIS†also, a lot of broadcasts and telecasts-all these are but a few among their successes.
In 1978 the choir-group has wen the Great Prize “The Amber Antenna†for best musical-film for TV at the Intervision Festival in Sopot (Poland) and has taken part in the World Festival of the Young and Students in Havana (Cuba). The repertoire of the choir-group comprises works inspired from the folk music (Romanian, English, German, American, French, Polish, Russian, Hungarian, Mexican, Japonese, Cuba and so on).
