"What's in a name? Well, Basic's name is appropriate: Three chords, bass, drums. Still, it's hard to pin down why the local trio's music is so infectious. Buddy Holly's lovesick lyrics and Sebadoh's heart-dragging jangle are fairly good starts, as singer/guitarist Jason Pearson's lyrics are forever pining and mending. Composed of Pearson, bassist Nemir Naayem, and drummer Adam Jones (Yellow Fever, Teenage Dog) and assembled in 2005, Basic subbed in Baby Robots drummer Glenn Barovich, and 2007's Favorite Movie is a good starting point."

"Though Basic’s 2007 debut, Favorite Movie, rolls out rock so catchy its straightforward garage chords seem inspired, the local trio’s latest songs lace the formula with lighter 1960s pop."
-Doug Freeman, Austin Chronicle
“Local quartet Basic’s self-titled debut LP is, so far, one of the sleepers of the year. They manage to meld bouncy Sixties pop romance with early Nineties Sebadoh kick-down-the-door guitar rock, and, somehow, it’s really, really catchy.â€

"Basic makes rock music that's made to get you out of your chair and moving around....Leadoff track, “Tyco†is packed with furious guitar riffs and sharp songwriting. “Carolina†takes those two elements, adds a hip-shaking beat and then twists them all into a singular piece of garage rock that is sure to make fans of the Vines happy. Even on the more pop influenced, summer anthem that is the title track the energy level remains high thanks to Jason’s consistent vocal swagger, perhaps best captured in the simple swaying bob of “It Isn’t Wrong.†In other words, when Basic pulls it all together, their sound is as good as it gets."
