Copperhead Road

About Me

Copperhead Road were formed in 1996 By Peter Smith and Steve Ellis. The band were formed out of the ashes of Ellias , Smith and Jones featuring the fantastic guitar of "Rocket " Rob Jones and the drums and vocals of the late Pete Tunnicliffe. The band performed in venues around the North West of England successfully and gathered a loyal following. During this time they recorded the album You Don't Have to Listen under the name of "Alias Country". The album was sold at gigs and the singles Listen and Man Of Your Own were played on European Country music radio stations. After great success the band split up in 1999 on very good terms this was due to illness of one of the members( a theme that you may see repeated ) Several years later Peter and Steve resurfaced to form The Zymmermen to perform Bob Dylan songs in their own unique style . This band featured John Buckle on guitar and Daddy D on drums. They played locally and at several festivals unfortunately ill health struck again this time not 1 but 2 members of the band suffered serious illness ( and Simon the Roadie had a major heart attack) All are recovering well but the band decided ,as you might expect, to take a break. I'll put some later stuff on the player periodically so check back regularly you Dylan fans. update 31/01/2008 After a while of inactivity and continuing ill health it looks like the end of the Road ( Copperhead ..) for the band. Steve is pretty housebound and John is still recovering from hand surgery Derek is much better last I heard. As for myself Peter Iv'e just fathered another child so that's keeping me busy at the minute. You never know what the future will hold for the band, maybe I can drag Steve out of retirement again. Iv'e just given hi a load of live recordings of the the band and he did'nt remember playing some of them so keep listening to the music i've got loads of different tracks both live and from the studio so check back soon. we have added our 100th friend .check out the alternative recording of copperhead road ps went to see steve earle this week he was great but i'm not sure about the turntable dj thing that he had as backing on the new songs

This is an album of totally original material from the pen of Steve Ellis, his unique vocal style is perfectly matched by an ensemble of some of the most talented musos min British Country Music. It is an album of differing styles that takes one from slow thought provoking ballads to the edge of Rock, but always with pure country music flowing through the main artery” Barry Thistleton Country and Irish Reporter“They have every intention of breaking into the Country Music scene and if the album is anything to go by then they will surely be a welcome addition… Their sound is modern and upfront” Country Music Roundup
