Lindsey Vona

Lindsey's musical explorations began at the age of 15 when her parents bought her an acoustic guitar. In that moment, her lifelong devotion to music began. Through her life she has studied to be a professional actress, writer, facilitator/counselor, vegan chef, and carpenter, however is currently most inspired by the potency and immediacy of authentic expression that is possible through songwriting, singing, and experimental instrumental music. From 2002 until 2006 she lived on the Big Island of Hawai'i, in total devotion to self-realization at two Earth based Dharma centers called Earthsong and Kipukamaluhia. ( www.rashani.com) During this time, whilst focusing on personal healing, awakening, and exploring the depth of some of the finest world wisdom traditions and teachings, she was able to reclaim and cultivate many aspects of her being including her aboriginal awareness, facets of her true nature normally disavowed or oppressed by way of consensus culture, and what is referred to in Buddhist teachings as Boddhichitta. ( the awakened heart. ) These inner and outer journeys provided much needed solitude in which to write poetry and music, and ultimately catalyzed the beginning of her creative actualization in the world. Deeply personal in her songwriting, she effortlessly weaves the worlds of psycho-spiritual awakening, ecological and social awareness, and poetic insight from her vast and rich inner world. Her ever expanding and dynamic range as a guitarist spans contemporary and cross-cultural percussive stylings (which tells a story in and of it self ), accompanied by her rich powerful, and velvety alto voice. A mystic and lover at heart, Lindsey loves to read and write poetry and has published several poems, and self published her first book of poetry in 2004. Much of her songwriting inspiration comes from exploring the inner terrain, as well as being touched by world events, relationships, mystical experiences, the mysteries of nature and love, and through a passion for reading poetry and diving into life full out. She gives tremendous thanks to the musicians and communities that have most impacted her musical journey, including her experience touring with Kannal during 2002, growing up with phenomenal musician and healer Meryl Joan Lammers, cultivating emotional and soul expansion through voice with Maniko, tapping into the festival and touring scene through the privledge of exploring lead guitar with Manaka, and jamming out with Al Torre, exploring the facets of authentic expression and healing through music offered by Rashani Rea, as well as her many beloved medicine family and friends from the Bay area to Hawai'i, to across the globe, and now diving into the night life in Berkeley and San Francisco.
