About Me

BIOGRAPHY

DJ Quest is a name synonymous with all things breakbeat. Since first getting into the music in early 2000, Quest has been instrumental in shaping the heavier, more club-oriented style of breaks. Starting with his first label “Pulse Recordings”, he alongside likeminded artists at the time such as Stanton Warriors, Blowfelt, Zinc and Deekline helped shape the sound to what it is known as today. The music back then (2000-2001) never really had a home or a name, and was tagged by the music press with all sorts of strange names, "breakbeat garage" being the one that eventually stuck. Quest came to dominate this crossover scene, with anthems such as "Warship", "Egypt" (with Ken Mac), "Captain Porno" and "Trunklets". Things started to move very quickly after a chance meeting with Deekline down at the infamous Music House (where Deekline first heard Quest's "Warship" and got very excited!), and a very important partnership and friendship was formed that still exists to this day. Quest was signed to Deekline's labels, Rat Records and Hardcore Beats, and the result was many more hits in this burgeoning scene. With tracks such as "Bad Boy DJ" and "Old Skool" becoming massive hits overnight, this paved the way for a project that is still very special to Quest. Rat Sessions Volume 1, released in 2002, was arguably the first album ever released in the more bassline, club orientated vein, featuring tracks such as "Floor Basher", "Say Yeah","Feeling" and "Synthetic Funk". Accompanied with a mix cd that featured top drum'n'bass MC IC3, this album sent shockwaves through the industry. With the album under his belt, Quest felt it was the right time to start his own label. This was of course the label we all know as the infamous Cyberfunk Recordings…….With a back catalogue consisting of an enviable array of breaks hits (including his own such as “Muffled Mayhem” with Yoof and Gravel Muncha), this label has been instrumental in the shaping of the breaks scene and the launching of some big big names that the scene has come to know and love. Quest's vision and support for artists such as the Breakfastaz, DJ Mutiny, Odissi and MC Ken Mac have come to make them the household names that they are today. Quest also reached an important milestone on Cyberfunk in 2006 with the label’s first mix compilation mixed by the man himself called “The Dubplate Files Vol. 1”. With positive reviews received from all and sundry, he is currently compiling volume 2 for release very soon!!! In addition to his output on Cyberfunk, Quest has also written huge tracks for other labels, including "Wormhole" (with Odissi) and "Blackhole" (with Ed 209), both on Hardcore Beats, and "Resident" and "Oil Drum", both on Mechanoise. He also co-wrote, with Ben Coupland, the epic "Haunted Gospel" (Botchit and Scarper), a track still popular with many almost four years after its release. He also has had tracks and remixes on labels such as, Supercharged, Botchit, Against the Grain, Lot 49, Combat Wax, Functional and many many more such as the remix of the dnb classic “Back to Your Roots” (by Friction and Johnny L) on Shogun Audio! As well as DJ Quest the producer, there is also DJ Quest the DJ which is equally as impressive as his production successes. Playing in countries as diverse as Spain, France, Romania, Germany, Hungary, Canada, USA, Russia, Croatia, Finland plus many more. He has played at famous nights here in the UK such as Hum, Trigger, Fuse, Supercharged, Stir, Glastonbury, Glade and many many more in the UK. Ladies and Gentlemen: We give u DJ Quest!!

QUEST & ODISSI "EXPEDITION TO PLANET ZOG"
The always innovative, fabulously eclectic and sometimes controversial collaborative efforts of long time breakbeat veteran Quest and his quirky electro-punk sidekick Odissi have made the pair a household name throughout the world of breakbeat ever since their names first appeared on the same vinyl some three years ago.
It could be said, that the records of this couple are very much like a box of chocolates, you can be certain that it is going to taste great... but you never really know what exactly youíre going to get. The unpredictability, in a strange way, creates an air of excitement to every single release by this pair and their first joint effort album is no exception to the standard they have set for themselves.
The great "Expedition to Planet Zog" began in a dark windowless studio deep in the heart of West London and unsurprisingly continued onward as an eclectic journey through every style and vibe imaginable. A true and well polished showcase of versatility, diversity, and ordered chaos making this one album that is sure to be a memorable affair. Here we see Quest's best solo production work to date, while Odissi, known mainly for her vocal work alongside the likes of Meat Katie & D. Ramirez, Dylan Rhymes, Vandal & Hyper, shows us that she is more than a one trick pony by showing off her studio skills and gives us a healthy dose of the lyrical stylings that have made her such hot property amongst the big boys of the scene. It's fresh, loud and most importantly captures the essence of Quest and Odissi's cheeky and twisted sense of humour.
Blended together via interludes of soundscapes and vocals which encompass the reoccurring album themes of travel, mind control, and governmental corruption, our heroes are easily able to guide the listener from one destination to the next. Be it the eerie, surrealistic and techy tones of such tracks as "Tendu", 'THX 2020" and "Sedated"... the in your face, disobedient and infectious grooves of "The Asbo Tune"... the deep jazz fuelled rhythms of "Jazz Time" and "Practice"... The raw punky sarcasm of "Wannabe" and "Vengeance".... the commercial fun of "Break Me" and "Dreaming of More"... The conscious anti-government / anti globalisim rantings of "Speakers Corner", "Fear", "Arm's Race" and "Propaganda", The emotional stylings of "Robot Dance" and "My Angel" or the anthemic "Back to the Old Skool"... This album includes something for every ear and makes for the ultimate epic listening experience.
Furthermore, itís not just the sound that can be called cutting edge, it should be noted that this is the first time in breakbeat history that two scene stars have decided to give their album away for FREE! That's right! Just in time for Christmas, this album will be available for free for your listening pleasure with the December issue of IDJ Magazine! And for the DJ's out there... fear not! In yet another unprecedented move this album sees the teaming up of two of breakbeat's most reputable labels, Botchit & Scarper and Cyberfunk Recordings to form an exciting new imprint by the name of (surprise!) Botchit & Cyberfunk on which the vinyl singles and a DJ friendly version of the CD will be released in the coming months.

OUT 20TH DECEMBER ON IDJ MAG!!!
