About Me

Erin Boyea's musical dream began when she was 8 years old and took her first piano lesson. She hated it and quit one month later, a disappointment to both her parents who said she'd regret it for the rest of her life. However, Erin proved her parents wrong time and time again. She learned how to play "Chopsticks" and "Heart and Soul." Eventually she taught herself Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting" and "The Feather Song" from Forrest Gump. In the 90's she played with her church worship team and came to develop a relationship with a few chord progressions, but nothing fancy. By 1999 she was singing and playing keys in a high school band. As a freshman in college, she wrote her first two songs on guitar: "Hey Hey," and "Distractions." They were bad. It wasn't until 5 years later Erin returned to the piano and decided to exercise her little fingers beyond their stretching capacity and with that, spent an entire year learning Journey's "Don't Stop Believing." Everything after that came somewhat easily. Though she still cannot read music, Erin has developed a somewhat unschooly ear for sound, giving her music a somewhat disturbed and confused feeling. But the songs seem to work, despite their rejection of contemporary music theory.

On my way to 100

I made a goal this winter, as I do many winters, when I'm sick of feeling cold and fat, that I would quit my band and pursue a childhood dream of being a solo singer. I pledged to myself to play 100 o...

Going Solo

Well it was a good year with Heather Rose and the Drama, but with more drama than fun, I've decided to venture out on my own. White Noise Records went out of business but the HRD album is safely in th...

Blind

I'm trying to record one song each month, so as I noticed August slipping away I decided to make use of one of my non-work days (I have many). I started a little riff in D minor then changed...

Gravity

Gravity was actually the slow lane song when I started it a few months ago. I was even going to break into a "beep-beep, beep-beep, i'm coming through..." chorus, an idea my sister came up with, but I...

Bad Dream

The first two lines of this song came to me when I was fiddling around with some of my band's songs - practicing for our next gig. I was playing with the A major chord and just let my fingers explore ...

Slow Lane

This song has been a pain in my butt for almost 6 months. I had planned to do it in a major key scale (happy sounding), with a few minor chords thrown in for flavor, and it ended up taking on a life o...

Bottle of Tears

Bottle of Tears is the second original I've taken into the studio. I recorded the piano track for this a while back, and finally figured out how to get my demo into Cubase. I didn't want a lot of lyri...

Fly Away

Update: Since posting this blog, I've cut the song down to 5 minutes and tightened up the intro and vocals. If you listen closely, you can hear wind, water, and birds chirping as the song begins. Ori...

Hand in my Pocket

This song was recorded with Geoff. We used electronic drums. Reason to the rescue!  That's the name of my drum program. I did a lot of tracks, and did all the recording with headphones and ...
