'Freedom is what you do with what's been done to you.' So said the philosopher, Jean-Paul Sartre. He was a Cancerian. Wise remarks. That quote gets better the more you think about it. Normally, we associate 'what's been done to us' with the very opposite of freedom. That's what we have no power or choice over. Ah, but what we do with it - or about it - is very different. We can say, 'I have got to be unhappy because I have been made unhappy.' Or we can say, 'No matter what has happened I am not going to let it get to me.'
