"EDJ's ROCK N' ROLL MASH UP" BRINGS THE SWINGING SIXTIES BACK TO CARNABY!"
After a successful couple of nights in 2007, "The Electric Dirt Junkie's Rock N Roll Mash Up" goes weekly on March 5th 2008. The club-night will be rocking London, every Wednesday @ one of the capital’s finest clubs, Studio Valbonne (Kingly Street, W1).
Leah Wood & Pam Hogg, Rumblestrips Live, Supergrass DJs, Marner Brown & The Thirst, plus Jezebel resident Jaguar Skills on the decks
Brought to you by former Happy Mondays guitarist KAV (the man behind Getloaded & Getloaded in the Park), the night will be doing more than just bringing in bands & guest DJs, but will be providing the West End with a taste of sixties style promoting. Bringing back the idea of weekly band residencies, which in the sixties saw bands such as The Who, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Elvis Costello, Yes & The Moody Blues & many more, all doing residencies in London clubs.
The EDJ nights are all about recreating a vibe in the area of Soho, where bands such as The Beatles, Small Faces & Rolling Stones spent the decade playing live gigs and socializing.
The concept of a residency fits perfectly with the music scene in 2008. At a time where development deals are almost a thing of the past & bands are increasingly expected to take the DIY approach; (building their own fan-base, releasing their own material & creating a buzz to get noticed), a residency gives bands continuity & allows club-goers to build up a relationship with the band on a weekly basis. This night is all about the 'word of mouth'. Expect the unpredictable; Impromptu performances, improvisation, jams & special guest musicians. This night is all about being part of a moment, an experience.
Each month the night will be brought you by a Guest Host, kicking off in March with Leah Wood, who will be bringing Rock n' Roll royalty to the venue every week & spinning some of her favourite tunes. For the preview launch party on March 5th the legendary Pam Hogg will be hosting the VIP Room along with Jezebel resident Jaguar Skills. ‘March's Monthly House Band’ will be The Thirst, who will be gracing the stage of Studio Valbonne every Wednesday in March. The Thirst are the latest signing to Ronnie Wood’s label ‘Wooden Records’ & have toured Europe as main support for Canadian band Hot Hot Heat and also performed as Sex Pistols support band where they truly held their own up against a very intimidating crowd at a sold out Manchester Arena.
As if this wasn’t enough – each week the Rock N' Roll Circus will have another treat in store – With a Live set from an Established Guest Band. Details will be announced each week, but we can confirm Rumblestrips will be playing the first night on 5th March, with each week seeing sets from a different Special Guest Band.
DJ Sets will be provided by KAV himself, Phil Smith (who is not only cemented in Oasis history, but is also their tour DJ), Rich Pack, and EDJ residents ‘Soul Boy Mystic Collective’. Last year saw the likes of Sadie Frost dancing till 3am to DJ sets from Primal Scream’s Mani, and Babyshambles turning up to see what all the fuss was about. Previous guests have included Maximo Park , Infadels, godfather of indie/electro Jagz Kooner & New Orders’ legendary bassist Peter Hook.
This night looks set to put Wednesday nights & Carnaby firmly on the map once again
