Welcome to the official MySpace page of Blake Ashby for President.
My name is Blake Ashby. I am running for President of the United States because I believe it is my duty, as an American citizen, to participate in government and facilitate change.
Although I had been a Republican since my sophomore year in High School, I am running as an Independent. I can no longer stomach the hypocrisy of the Republican Party on economic issues. My goal in this campaign is to highlight the degree to which the Party has abandoned its traditional fiscal conservatism, and the damage this is doing to our country. And if the Party does not change course, this might become the start of a twelve year mission to split the Party in two – into those Republicans that care most about fiscal conservatism, and those that care most about social conservatism.
Maintaining a positive perspective with the political process, especially when personally invested, can often prove to be tedious and disheartening. The well-being of our country is suffering economically politically from the power of the special interests and the torpor of party politics. We are enmeshed in a financially and psychologically bankrupt war based on half-truths and the Bush Administration's hubris. Once the pride of our free nation, civil liberties are now negotiable and human torture is acceptable. Although frustrated with the state of our nation, however, I remain positive about its future.
I am asking Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians and everything in between to come together because we share a greater vision for our government. As a once concerned, but now determined citizen, and a lesser-known but politically sound candidate, I am asking for your support. I believe I represent how we think and feel about the current state of our nation and the changes necessary to preserving what our founders intended for it. I am committed to vociferously delivering the message that the status quo of manipulation, lies and corruption by our political leaders will not continue. My endeavor, though challenging, is possible.
