Lisa's story:Stebic was last seen the evening of April 30 at her home in Plainfield, Ill. Her husband, Craig, said he was working in the backyard and their young children were out when Lisa Stebic disappeared with her purse and cell phone about 6 p.m. He said she left on foot or was picked up because her car was still in the driveway.Neither her cell phone nor credit cards have been used since.Friends and relatives of Lisa have repeatedly described her as a doting mother who would never leave her children. She worked in the school cafeteria so she could pick up Zach after school each day and be at home to greet Lexi upon her arrival. Davi was serving as divorce attorney for Craig Stebic, who filed to divorce Lisa in January. Struggling in a marriage that was fraught with tension, the couple largely led separate lives and avoided being in the house at the same time.Lisa had plenty to say about Craig Stebic's parenting abilities in a petition she signed and mailed the day she went missing. The petition called for Craig Stebic to be temporarily evicted from the house, terming him a "verbally abusive" husband and father who damaged the mental health of his family.7-13-07
The Plainfield Police Department called Lisa's husband, Craig Stebic, a "person of interest" in the case during a press conference. They also conceded that her disappearance, reported by a neighbor May 1, was most likely the result of "foul play." These revelations have given Nature's Crossing residents another reason to be scared in what was once a tranquil neighborhood.Published in the Naperville Sun 7-12-07.
