The Saruzu Quartet

About Me

A fiery flamenco-tango-jazz ensemble, Saruzu's interpretation of the rich harmonies of Argentine tango, the wild improvisations of gypsy jazz and the fire and grace of flamenco, is exhilarating.  Evocative of a 1920's Paris cafe scene filtered through an edgy and contemporary sensibility, Saruzu is a celebration of the musical passions of its members - renowned violinist Luke Moller, sensual flamenco dancer & fiery percussionist Simone Pope, ferociously cool jazz bass player Andrew Shaw and laid back guitar virtuoso Andrew Veivers. The Saruzu Quartet's recordings and performances have been describe as...."Saruzu's second self-produced recording - Segundo - "slinks onto your stereo, impeccably clad and very well heeled, demanding your head twist twice to take in its smooth delivery."(Amanada Murrel - Tsunami Magizine)  “…one of the most colourful and exciting groups in Australia today…” (Sebastian Flynn – BEMAC)   “…Saruzu’s evocative filmic style conjures a world beyond the music; both of intimacy and grandeur…”  (Michael Peterson – Woodford Folk Festival)   “…they are intuitive, innovative and they generate a musical energy that leaps from the speakers, gently massaging your mind one moment and seconds later lifting you away to dizzy heights of excitement…” (Paul Bodington – 612 ABC Radio, Brisbane)
