So heres where I get to wax lyrical about my virtues and general all round awesomness!
Generally I'm a rather quiet chap, however on occasion I do enjoy creating a great deal of noise, either through means of vibrating a steel or nylon string suspended over a wooden structure, or more usually hitting round pieces of mylar and lathed metal with sticks!
I first picked up the drums after 2nd year music class, there was only one drumkit in there and 30 kids with sticks. I think we each got around 20 seconds on it, but it was love at first wallop.
After that I managed to somehow teach myself the (very) basics using only a pair of cheap sticks, and an old pillow. I think at some point during this my skills reached a plataeu despite this I've somehow managed to play some "music" on occassions since.
My first band was a rather sturdy affair involving my brother, and a few mates from school. The results.. varied.. I think we were termed Grindcore at the time, owing our main influences to Metallica, Pantera, Slayer et all. Though we did have a rather tasty cover of Whole Lotta Rosie!
After moving onto uni I was found and served under the withering gaze of he who is now known as D-Click. In the fu**ed up rock n' roll band Yuffie. gigs were played, demos were made. Had a great time with them but after moving back to Stirling I was forced to turn in my sticks.
Over the intervening years my tastes had grown, I wont say changed as Metallica are still the canines clementines. Perhaps I become middle aged or some such.. however I found myself listning to jazz and blues. I blame hot summer days and beer in Brel on sundays live music afternoons!
Deciding to explore this strange new world I enlisted with a young man known to some as... Andy. After some months of jamming, a further explorer joined the fold in the form of Tom, a big handed bassist (Arnt they all)
That brings us neatly to the present in which I currently reside, bashing the drums in my own "inimitable" style for Softer Ride playing good old blues rock, myspace.com/softerride. Check it out and come along and see us sometime, Ill maybe even get some of the songs on this page if I can wrestle the files from Andy's draconic talons.
