Partition

Partition formed in 2001 and, after one rehearsal and no demos, used their influencing skills (several pints and a fair amount of nagging) to secure a support slot for the Lucksmiths at the Bull & Gate. The unusually trusting promoter was probably as nervous as the band on the night but the sellout crowd seemed to enjoy Partition's take on life, love and their (slightly strange) universe.Two angry young men playing short songs became two angry men and a very chilled-out woman playing short songs when Talya joined them as drummer for subsequent shows. This remained the core line-up for several years, although Partition tried to get into the record books as a punk band with a cellist in 2002/3. In 2005/6 they had a brief flirtation with a French bassist before settling on a rather more reliable Australian.Although a UK tour eluded the band, the period 2001-6 included lots more gigs in London, 3 shows in Melbourne, an unoffical but highly profitable appearance at ATP and even a performance in Eire. Regular gigs at Club Blang! (12 Bar Club) culminated in a Partition track appearing on their 'Fruit Machine' CD. This was Partition's first official release but the band have recorded lots of other stuff for their own Pop Might label - see the Partition Discography Blog.In 2006, after nearly 5 years of Partition drumming, Talya's parole finally came through and she headed off to teach other people how to drum, at very reasonable rates.She left behind two men who weren't quite so angry (or young). Whilst the punk attitude remained - Martin's none-too-tuneful voice and Rob approach to guitar playing meant that this was a given - Partition's new songs and current live show concentrate rather more on the comedy part of their ridiculous genre-spanning monicker than the indie-punk-pop parts. (Musos: these days they are a bit more I Ludicrous than Isocracy).2008 will finally see the release of the catchily titled 'If You Buy One CD This Year....
