The history of DJ Prueph. In 1995 I had just graduated from high school. I had just saved up $2000 and was going to buy a car. I couldn't get the loan myself and I couldn't get a co-signer. So, I went and bought some turntables. I got some Gemini tables, got them home and set up. I go to cue my first record. Which was," the Beastie Boys, Licenses to Ill." As I let go of the record there was a slow drag. I tried it again, same thing happened. So I packed my tables back up, took them back to the music store, and got me some Technics. The first six months I didn't have a clue. It was about a year before I played my first rave. I played a few house parties. Then my first real gig.
It was a Sunday night at Scorpio's after the drag show. My good friend Fuzz hooked me up and it was an awesome experience. After that I played the Charlotte and Raleigh scene for a while, then Columbia and Greenville. I was a resident dj for the Latino House and Area 51 in Charlotte. Where great things happened. One night I was playing in the side room at Area51. Right in the middle of my set. I was pumping it as loud as it would go, mixing these two records, which I'll forever love because of this. The croud was going crazy, both records were starting to build up. The vibe was about to blow the roof off of this place. Everyone was going nuts. Then..... right as the records were about to break. I overloaded the curcuit, the power cuts off, and the croud was "awwwwwwwwwwww" and I just start laughing at the top of my lungs. I knew, I just blew this mother up. I loved that place. I opened up for Dieselboy one night and it was a packed house of about 3000 heads. There's nothing like having a sea of people all vibing to your groove. Then shortly after, the scene in Charlotte died. The QC has never been the same. That was by far the best time of my life. "living like a rockstar."
So, I started back to school. While in school, I was traveling to Myrtle Beach on the weekends to play at Friends and Industry where I was resident. I got to meet alot of tourist. Which got me to another level. I've played from NY to Miami and as far west as New Orleans. While in school, I got a broadcast journalism degree and started working in radio for HOT92.7 a hip-hop station. Where I got to meet all kinds of celeb.s from Jay Z and the Rocafella family, Ludachris, Mary J, and Usher just to name a few.
One time in Jackson MS, I was playing at an outdoor amphitheater, headlining with Jeffee a junglist from Florida. I was the only breaks at a D&B party. In the middle of my set a train passes by. It was so loud you couldn't hear anything but the train and I guess that's where the term train wrecking came from. So I turned the music down. I matched the music to the beat of the train and brought the music back in and the croud went crazy. Now, it's years later, I'm in Charleston, and they just don't know what's about to hit'em.Check it out! Cool T'shirt designs. They're all available for purchase. Just contact us at [email protected]..
