Johan Jacob

About Me

Nordic and Celtic music has always been a strong source of inspiration for Johan Jacob, and as he adds a certain measure of jazz and his own distinct style, the result is a very personal and original sound with a tinge of light northern summer nights as well as a hint of that melancholy, which is so typical of many Scandinavian musicians and composers.
"Sublunar", his third album after "Shapeshifter's Dance" (2008) and "Drømte mig en drøm" (2008), continues the search for new ways of expression and strikes a slightly lighter tone, which is especially noticeable in "Leaf Dancer". And of course Johan Jacob pays tribute to some of the jazz kingpins with his very personal interpretations of "Beautiful Love", "Follow Your Heart", and "Misty".
Besides playing with the folk quintet "Huldra" in Ã…rhus, who have specialized in modern versions of Scandinavian and Irish folk tunes, Johan Jacob has recently started up a jazz trio, and he continues the close co-operation with percussionist Benjamin Sommer, who can be heard on two of the tracks on "Sublunar". - "Sublunar" thoroughly reflects Johan Jacob's passion for the acoustic guitar and his deep respect for and enjoyment of the music of Michael Hedges and Vicki Genfan and jazz guitarists like John McLaughlin, Kenny Burrell, and Jim Hall.
