The beauty of the soundtrack to Pride & Prejudice (2005) can be attributed to Dario Marianelli (composer), the English Chamber Orchestra, and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Marianelli actually wrote much of the soundtrack before the filming began - opposite of what most film composers are expected to do - because some pieces were meant to be performed on screen.
Henry Purcell, a contemporary composer of the time period during which Pride & Prejudice is set, was apparently a great influence to Marianelli, especially in the dances. This, of course, is alluded to in the track entitled "A Postcard to Henry Purcell."
Marianelli received an Oscar nomination for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score and two World Soundtrack Academy nominations for Best Original Soundtrack of the Year and "Soundtrack Composer of the Year."
The album can be purchased online on Zune for 880 points, or on iTunes for $9.99 (tax applies). Of course, the CD can also be found on Amazon.com and in your local stores. I strongly encourage you all to purchase the music if you love it as much as I do!
