I am a little ole' dive bar in Sunset Beach..I am home to all kinds of people- locals, surfers, bikers, musicians, actors, BMXers, strippers, fishermen, contractors, sideshow performers..you name it!!..Everyone is welcome here!!
I was originally built around 1910 and have been in this community through many changes.
I was a cafe next to a mechanic, a speak-easy and a distribution center for the rum-runners during prohibition, a bait shop, city hall (unofficially), and then a bar.
I became a bar in 1958 when the property owner Tom Jackson, turned me into one.
I was then leased to a drunk who shot his gun into my ceiling while on a bender.
My new owner, after that incident named me Mother's in 1962, after the bar in the 'Peter Gunn' TV show..where he used to spend his time.
I've been Mother's ever since.
Home to all kinds...got in some trouble in the 70's with some bikers that used to hang out here..they had to park on the side and hide the bikes so the cops didn't see them..
I've had a few owners..but the two that are most memorable right now are Pete Duvall..a wonderful man and local..and my last was Tina Lautner, who took care of me for 20 years..and made this place what it is today..
I'm now undergoing some considerable cosmetic surgery inside, under the new ownership of the Lawrence family. They would like to get me back into tip-top running shape..and I still have many more good years left in me.
So do you..
My beer is cold, I have great live music on the weekends and there's room for everybody..
Please come see me..
Love Mother's xx
