"Candy Says" - our second ever performance of a Velvet Underground song that is not on the Velvet's CD. sung by Ken Badger, Dakota Tavern, April 2008, filmed by Aldo Edric of To Be Scene Productions.
Toronto Film-maker Colin Brunton took some stock footage, a Scenics song, and added some live Scenics footage from the Last Pogo, and created this music video for Do the Wait.
people have said...
"Only a madman would dare to pick his top 10 cds of 2008 in the first week of January, but this is one record that has got me gnawing on my strait jacket"
Jeffrey Morgan, Detroit Metro Times
"Stunning in the way the Byrds playing Bob Dylan was so searing. 8/10"
Johnson Cummins, Montreal Mirror
"The Scenics rock ferociously... their spirit and genius burn through"
Vancouver North Shore News
"The Scenics were truly modern. With Influences ranging from Tommy James to John Coltrane, they had a vast repretoire and such a level of intensity.
I loved them for searching out new ideas, for being fun loving, always wildly exciting, and so contradictory. They were perfect!
Gary Topp, promoter, Toronto.

"The Scenics played tunelessly for a half hour..."
The Toronto Globe and Mail, April, 1979
"They were the most creative, the most daring, the most original, and the most misunderstood-- of all the bands in that scene."
Colin Brunton, film-maker (the Last Pogo, Hedwig and the Angry Inch)

The Scenics play What Goes On at their first live show in 26 years. April 13 2008 Horseshoe Tavern w/ Carla Bozulich. Song from their CD How Does it Feel to be Loved: The Scenics play the Velvet Underground. Video by Aldo Edric of 'To Be Scene' Productions.
Growing Pains, an unrecorded song written in 1980, from the Horseshoe/Bozulich gig. Many more videos on youtube.
Influences: (In no particular order) The Velvet Underground, Pere Ubu, a radio stuck between two stations, the Shangrilas, finding a penny, The Rolling Stones, Talking Heads, where do the chords go when they go? Patti Smith, Little Johnny Jewel, little kids, 13th Floor Elevators, Turtles, The Byrds, jazz, noise, the Beau Brummels, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, Syd, Fairport Convention, walking anywhere (city, country) for 10 minutes and just listening- {in the city it sounds like throbbing gristle, in the country it sounds like Tchaikovsky played by ghosts) the Monkees, Big Star, The Emprees and all things american garage, Ramones, Roxy Music, Eno, dub and glam production (Visconti and Ken Scott) Eric Dolphy, Dylan, the Band, early Motown, Flamin Groovies, the Original Contortions, Bowie, Cap'n Beefheart, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Stooges, NY Dolls, Beach Boys....
Sounds Like: Big Star arm wrestles with Pere Ubu, and the winner jams with Television. With bigger amps.
Record Label: Dream Tower Records
Type of Label: Major
