About Me

If you have any additional information about modern day slavery, please message me. If you want to get involved, contact one of the organizations below, or contact me @ [email protected] "When a cause comes along and you know in your bones that it is just, yet refuse to defend it--at that moment you begin to die. And I have never seen so many corpses walking around talking about justice." - Mumia Abu-Jamal I am a College Student who began research this summer originally on the black panther movement, but then when I read Disposable People by Kevin bales, my life was changed. I was introduced to the knowledge that there was modern day slavery. Slavery that came in all forms from debt bondage in India and Pakistan, to Sex Slaves world wide, and to Traditional Slavery widespread in such places as Mauritania and Sudan. The Economist even mentioned slaves over 10,000 in Niger. IAbolish.org says experts estimate that there are around 27 million slaves in this world. That’s more people than who were killed in both the Rwanda and Darfur Genocides.
There is no true freedom, no true Declaration of Human Rights, until the most ancient, and most barbaric form of cruelty – slavery - is abolished.
Slavery is not some distant reality that happens only in Africa or Asia. Slavery happens everywhere. Escaped slaves have been reported in France, where it was one estimated that there are around 3,000 slaves (Disposable People), and it also exists in America in the form of Unpaid Labor and sex slaves, the chocolate we eat may be a product from forced labor and rape.
Slavery is not legal. It is banned internationally, however perpetrators go unpunished. Because of the nature of today’s world, slaver traders must be more careful, more secretive, and extort more forced to break the moral of the slave victims. Rape and beatings, with the threat of death, and sacrifice of humans as examples are the new methods of torture to break the spirit of a human bean into submission. Kevin Bales explains that most of today’s slaves are used for a few to many years and then easily disposed of however in places like Mauritania where slavery is a tradition, and people are born slaves, slavery lasts a lifetime, and even after freedom, ties to the masters family are maintained.
Slavery is a crime against us all. I want to get the word out about what’s going on in our own backyards. We failed in stopping the Rwanda Genocide, We failed at the Holocaust, we are failing at keeping our promise to not allow Genocide to happen again, let us not fail in eradicating slavery once and for all.
