About Me

Plan B Studios is a recording facility located in the Italian Market section of South Philadelphia. (yes, Rocky runs by here and we wave to him every morning.) It is located in the bowels of an old Italian bank built sometime in the early 1900's. The antique brickwork and unusual design of the building makes it a great acoustic space(s) to work in as well as possessing a very unique Dr. Frankenstein's labratory type of atmosphere. every attempt has been made to set up a top-notch recording environment, while peacefully coexisting with the history (or even the "soul") of the building. we also have a wide range of spaces to play with, from dead, dry iso rooms, to a live, large echo room with 35 foot ceilings, and things inbetween.
Plan B uses 2" 24 track and 1/4" 2 track as its main recording format- however, we have recently caught up with the 90's and added Pro Tools LE to our arsenal. while we don't condone tracking entire sessions with PT, we have found it useful for some tricky situations, or doing transfers from existing tapes, or accommodating projects done home or studios who want to make use of our tracking and mixing environments and engineers.
we pride ourselves on providing only the very best in fidelity and working environment. our extensive mic, outboard gear, amplifier, and instrument collection spans from the 1930's to the present. there's a gear list up in our blog for those who are interested. our main goal here has been to create a comfortable and inspiring space that bands can come into and play music and have it captured properly. it's the perfect antidote to modern day's "tried-and-true" methods of collecting a bunch of raw material tracks and patchwork-quilting them into something sort-of resembling music. "post-production" is the term they use for this silliness. to us, it's just nonsense.
rates for studio time are simple: $450 a day (a day is 10 hours) or $50/hr. this includes an engineer and use of anything and everything in the studio, but does NOT include media costs. (i.e. reels of tape)
NO DEMOS are required! we will work with anyone who's interested. we have worked literally on every genre of music and we especially encourage people to contact us who think they are creating new ones. that's the kind of stuff that keeps me going! (and yes, provided that you are well rehearsed, i have completed numerous full-length albums in 1-2 days with fantastic results!)
to contact us, take a tour of the facility, or book a session, just message us or send an email to: [email protected] or feel free to call us at 267.577.0551.
