Soul Sista’s Juke Joint™ is an evening highlighting local, upcoming and independent female artists from all over the country.
Reminiscent of the juke joints, blues and jazz houses of the 50's and 60's,
Soul Sista’s Juke Joint™ will take you back in time...
Imagine walking into an establishment reminiscent of a Smoky Joe's Café or an
Apollo Theatre tucked back in an alley way. The sultry sounds could be heard
a mile away, and the tunes became your company, while the horn section drew
you closer and closer as you hurried deeper into the woods. When you finally
arrived, and opened the door, the energy embraced you, and escorted you to a
seat, where you saw a diva singing her heart out to a group of hip sisters and
brothers. Scatting and singing and pouring out her soul. You looked around to
see that folks were just having a good time. Mesmerized by the vocal power of
women.
Welcome to Soul Sista’s Juke Joint™, a unique evening held bi-weekly exposing
the talents of local and upcoming female artists, musicians and poets. A fusion
of jazz, blues, house, folk, operatic, and acoustic soul. From Diane Schuur
to Michelle N'degeocello, Ella Fitzgerald to Jill Scott . Where Nikki Giovanni
meets Maysa Leek, where folk music meets jazz, where ragtime music meets house
music, house meets trip hop and all that in between. Soul Sista’s Juke Joint™
is where it can be seen. Soul Sista’s Juke Joint has showcased over 150 solo
artists, poets, bands, visual artists, small businesses, and/or musicians, to
date.
Soul Sista’s Juke Joint™ is an art movement in itself. It is a fusion of all
artistic genres in a very unique way. Soul Sista’s Juke Joint™ will focus on
the talents of local female artists in Atlanta, NY, Philadelphia, California,
DC, Chicago, and wherever we can locate “sistas†with soul. Soul Sista’s Juke
Jointâ„¢ will take place in Atlanta, one of the major areas for underground and
soul music. We will combine, create and disseminate a message of peace and love
through art and music in a way that hasn't been captured in a since the days
of Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin, Nina Simone, Anita O’day, Shirley Horn, Moms
Mabley, and all of the great female art legends. It is long overdue and well
awaited for.
Soul Sista’s Juke Joint™ mission is to elevate human consciousness through art,
culture, music and the diverse power of women. Our secondary mission surrounds
sisterhood: creating and restoring positive images about the strength of women,
our diversity, our differences and our respective cultures. Art, culture and
music comprise some of the greatest gifts known in human existence.
Soul Sista’s Juke Joint™ will provide a nurturing space for independent and
upcoming female artists to spread their wings. As a vehicle, this Harlem Renaissance
inspired evening will touch the hearts and souls of the young, the old and the
in between.
