About Me

A female mc with no boundaries on topics, I have traveled the world with my music and have been inspired by so many individuals and movements. I first started to write lyrics at the age of 12. I grew up on gospel music and pop unlike most emcees and grew to learn about hip hop after actually bearing my initial lyrics. One day, at the age of 15, I was visiting with a friend (Killa Noise), as we walked and talked he began to rap with his buddy. Back and forth they went, I was so amazed, I spoke up and said, "I can rap too!". They wondered what I was capable of and as I got up the courage to spit, they looked on with amazement. My first lines were, "I been this fly/ all of my life/ Im a libra born 10-11-79/ Do not have to prove myself/ cause my blue is true/ and if you try to mess with me/ Im a get my crew!" They loved it. That was my first time ever revealing to anyone that I could rap. At the time, I knew nothing about De La Soul, nothing about Rakim, nothing about Roxanne Shante, or even MC Lyte (whose actually born on the same day as me). It was in me somehow to be an mc without actually being influenced. I did however have one song that I listened to on my little broke down radio..."It Takes Two-by Rob Bass". I had learned it and sang it all the time. Yall may be wondering why I did not hear hip hop all like that when I was in the age of it. Well, at the time of my adolescents I was being raised by my grandparents, who were die hard Christians that would not allow "rebellious" music in their home. I was forbidden to listen to it. At the time, I did not understand how vital it would become to my existence and did nothing to go against what they said. I had found the Rob Bass cassette on the ground one day coming home from school and being curious about what was on that cassette, I listened to it when I got home. Fortunately, when I went to listen to it, my grandparents were not home. When I heard it, somehow I knew, they would not want me listening to it, so I hid it under my mattress. For the next year, I could not wait to get home after school and listen to my "secret" cassette tape. That was the first song that spoke to me. After listening, so many times, I felt the urge to write my own lyrics out of rebellion. Because I was not allowed to listen, I felt there was no harm in writing. So I started to make up my own raps. I was not really doing it to make it in the industry...did not even know ABOUT the industry. I was doing it to soothe my ears and soul. I wrote for me. On the day that Killa Noise told me that I was really good, he changed my life forever and I thank him. Because of him, I felt my music was maybe worthy for others to hear. Since then, I have accomplished so many amazing feats in the industry. All of which are just the meat of the story of how Shay D. Atom came to be. Now Shay D. Atom is back to the beginning. NEW NAME: glORian light. This is the phoenix rising from Shay D. Atom's cremation ashes...SHE HAS RISEN!!GLORIAN LIGHT IS THE DORMANT SIDE OF SHAY D. ATOM THAT HAS BEEN WAITING FOR YEARS TO BURST FREE TO BE THE MEGAPHONE FOR THE SOUL OF A WOMAN YOU ALL MAY KNOW AS ZAKIA S. DOTTIN-CARTER. SHE IS AN INSPIRING & TRUTHFUL LYRICIST WHO IS OUT OF THE CLOSET WITH HER ORIENTATION...AND OUT OF THE BOX WITH HER VERSATILE TOPICS. Writing for self. No more hunger for the limelight, no more hunger for a vast audience...just making good music that soothes her spirit and occasionally blesses the ears of those who happen to hear her. I only have up one of many of the tracks that Ive done because it is my favorite (I recorded this one with Def Jam, its produced by 88 Keyz...who's now with Sony Music). Enjoy the track that is on my page, because it is not only personal, it's my testimony of trying to break through the glass ceiling of HIP HOP. Please check in on my page for more tracks to come. Peace and light to all who have taken the time to read this. And God Bless all my Myspace Friends!! Love and Light family!
