Clayton D. Woods, Sr.

About Me

Clayton began singing while in elementary school. He continued his interest for music in junior high. But it was when he attended high school that he would fully develop an affinity for music. His participation in the Advanced Chorus would afford him the opportunity to develop more as an artist. The Advanced Chorus frequently participated in performance-oriented engagements, which focused more on audience-approved responses. Clayton’s vocal experience was not limited to school choirs. Clayton spent an exhaustive amount of years in various church and community gospel choirs. His time spent singing in these choirs would sculpt the very essence of Clayton’s sound, which entails one of the richest and natural vocal abilities ever heard.================================================After graduating from high school, Clayton pursued various roles in local musical stage play productions including Gotta Keep Movin’, directed by Mr. Jimmy Jacobs, and Wings, a play written and directed by Brenda Waters. He portrayed the title character of Mark Angel. The role of Billy would be his next acting challenge as he would be cast in the Houston production of Laura May, Lord Have Mercy, written and directed by Professor Robert Sims. He was then cast in the national touring stage production of Truly Blessed, which starred singers Tony Terry and Michael Cooper of “Con Funk Shun”. ================================================ Clayton competed in numerous talent contests. One of which, garnered him a first place prize and opportunity to record his first gospel project on the Pure Records Label (a local gospel record company). During his tenure with Pure Records, he traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for the Gospel Music Workshop of America in 1994 representing the gospel record label and appeared on the New Artist Showcase. ================================================= Clayton desires to pursue acting more vigorously. He hopes to incorporate both abilities more consistently in his career pursuits. As gifted as this artist is, that task should not be difficult to achieve.================================================= CLAYTON:“When I sing, I want people to go on journey with me.” “I want the audience to experience every note presented to them.”With the depth and skill he executes his songs, the world can only prepare for the experience that is Clayton D. Woods. =================================================Clayton is currently seeking representation from a qualified, motivated, and committed agency willing to take the depth of his talents to the masses.===================================================== ============================================================ ============================================================ ============================================================ ======= ============================================================ ============================================================ ============================================================ ============================================================ ====================================================

Influences: My musical influences include three people who have changed the way I express myself in this particular genre. From a Gospel perspective Vanessa Bell Armstrong and Daryl Coley are indisputably the single greatest inspirations to me. Their ability to take notes that pierces the soul and evokes a level of celebration that is unmatched.===============================================My single greatest musical influence that crosses all genres is Jennifer Holliday. Before she was introduced to the world, she demonstrated the raw ability to sing from a place few people have tapped; and that is deepest part of her diaphragm. The art of singing from this place has given me an unprecedented affinity for her. As a result I am motivated to communicate my music in this form as I want people to sense the passion as to why I sing.
