EMERGENZA REVIEW
Ethanol 58 began their set with a couple of self professed new songs. "Your Flame" being the first of the set. The most memorable and entertaining however, was "Drifting and Dreaming." It has the hard hitting, radio ready sound we've grown to expect from this band. "Cure For The Reason" starts off with a nice open space in the music which lets the lead singers voice shine through, then at the chorus the band jumps in, and I do mean "Jump" in a literal sense. No matter where you look, there is massive movement on stage when these guys play. They have so much energy, they make you want to jump up and down with them, and most of the audience was doing just that. I was a bit less impressed with another new one called "Silhouette." It just doesn't sound radio ready yet, but with time and some small adjustments it could become what we've grown to expect from Ethanol 58.
At the end of each song, the Ethanol 58 followers kept screaming for the classic "Let It Go." Time was running out for these guys and I thought they might not make it to "Let It Go," but they surprised us all by mixing into it in the middle of "And She Said." All in all, it was a great set and I look forward to watching them again. I did notice, unlike in the past, that there are now very clear harmonies in some of the songs. I think this adds to the effect and I'd like to hear more of it.
I thoroughly enjoyed all the bands, but the winners "hands up" were definitely Ethanol 58, and the audience agreed, so they will be in the Emergenza finals on the 30th November 2008 at the Kings Arms in Auckland (CBD).
Thank you for the opportunity to review this band.
