About Me
The year is 1988, a nine year old primary school student is informal at home when a visit from a cousin would change his life forever. The cousin who was five years his senior came round to the nine year old’s family home to use their twin cassette deck recorder to copy some tapes, this became a regular occurrence. Through these visits the nine year old was introduced to artists such as Ice T, N.W.A, B.D.P, Public Enemy & 2 Live Crew. He was enthralled with what he was hearing and quickly started stealing his Fathers bhangra cassettes so he could duplicate hip hop/rap albums over them and continued to hide them under his bed. This led him to listening to the tapes, pausing and rewinding them so he could write down what the artists were expressing. A year later at the tender age of ten he would go on to perform Ice T's “Radio Suckers’ in front of his school and parents at a primary school talent show. A few years down the line and he was introduced to Yo MTV Raps, Hip Hop Connection magazine and Tim Westwood radio show, this interest kept him fascinated about the whole hip hop culture and had him saving up he's dinner money to buy hip hop vinyls.S.Kalibre born 1979 in Chatham, Kent had no idea what the future had in store for him. Exposed to music from an early age by he's Father who had a passion for singing and recording at home. He started scripting rhymes at a very young age and wrote his first rap at the age of eleven about all the children in his class and what secondary schools they would be going to. Whilst the kids around him were listening to Michael Jackson, Bros, Kylie and Jason, Rick Ashley whatever, S.Kalibre was listening to N.W.A and was involved in the drum n bass scene for a while when hip hop fell stagnant in the mid 90's, but Hip hop has always remained his first love.In terms of life, S.Kalibre experienced a disturbed upbringing which manifested in his acting as a class clown, at times he was abusive to others around him, his smile and vengeance masked the pain of the hurt child within. He became closest to his brother and found sanctuary in hip hop music which by its sometimes aggressive yet liberating discourse resonated with his developing anger which continued as a theme throughout he's adolescent years and can be observed in his early written material. He left school at the age of 15 and became involved with a negative peer group, and found himself residing in Birmingham, London, Chatham and Rochester, Involved in activities which would of jeopordised his freedom had his son not been born. He met up with producer Mike S in 1999 and joined a crew called UTI (Under The Influence), The crew recorded an album which never saw the light of day due to financing and members relocating to other parts of the country, It was at this point Mike S & S.Kalibre formed the two man team called Hard Livin, The crew started doing shows all over the U.K and began collaborating with other artists. They were picked up by a label called Sin Nombre and a distribution deal with Universal followed. They enjoyed success via TV, newspapers, magazines and radio but then the label fragmented. Hard Livin however, remained cohesive, continuing to build upon there material to the present day.Now at the age of 28 he is an accomplished UK artist who has worked with a host of artists from allover the UK and USA the likes of Blade, Skinnyman, Q Unique, Daz Dillinger, Sabotage Yo Style, Scoob Rock, Junior Disprol and up and coming artists like Apocraphe, Genesis Elijah, Syndrome, Dap C, Bury Crew, Conflix, Troy Scalpels, Manage, CLG, DX, Armshouse, Baron Samedi, Natty, Wordperfect, Humark D Gritty, Stig of the Dump, Redeye, Dr Syntax, Frisko Dan, Stag P, Ironbridge and many more.
