Brisbane band Bic Benedict began in 2007 with songwriters Daniel Vistar (guitar and vocals) and Chris Ferguson (bass and vocals) teaming up with long time friends Richie Nowell (guitar) to play a one off gig at Brisbane’s Alley Bar. After the success and ease in which the evening came off they decided to continue playing together.
Over the last couple of years they have developed and are continuing to improve their sound. A sound that can be best described as a blend of power pop combined with rootsy rock. The songs focus on instant appeal through catchy choruses, layered but not overplayed guitar hooks and energetic, distinguishable melodic vocals accompanied with lush backing harmonies.
Over the past 18 months Bic have stepped it up a gear with the release of their debut EP ‘Lodestar’ earning praise from Triple J DJ Vijay Khurana. “Barry D or should I say B+? This is three minutes of punchy power-pop complete with snappy guitars and wry lyrics. 4/5â€
‘Barry D’ and ‘Lodestar’ where given a spin by Triple J, FBI, PBS and many other community stations around the country.
Anthony Lycenko who has worked with artists such as Pete Murray, David Bowie and Grinspoon mixed the EP.
Bic Benedict have also gone on to play many gigs with highlights including the Brisbane Advertising Awards at The Tivoli and in April/May of ’09 they embarked on their first tour playing The Cambridge in Newcastle and Holy Grail in Canberra as well as many other smaller towns along the way.
Such is their addictive sound they have also picked up a residency at West End’s Music Kafe, playing their once a month.
