In the 80's South Fla. Dj's were like super stars! You had Jam Pony Express from Ft. Lauderdale whos mix tapes who were pushed world wide from the Oakland Park Flea Market-Ghetto Style Djs rocking the Miami teen disco ''Pac Jam'' and popularized by Luke Skyywalker and the 2 Live Crew also they were the first to do underground radio in South Fla on 91.9fm-Triple M Dj's rocking the club called''The Bass Station''. Disco Dave was the 1st dj to slow down music in the 80's but popularized by Dj Screw from Texas in the late 90's,Yes slowed down music originated in Miami. Later in the 90's you had Uncle Al from The Sugarhill Dj's who was popular on the undergound radio scene and having 5 albums under his belt.The popular dj's at the time started making records and gaining national fame such as The Puppys,Dj Chipman,Luke,Uncle Al, and Crazy Leggz. As some grew old younger, newer Dj's starting taking their place with the new generation such as Pure Funk dj's G money,Toe Doe,and Lil Black were rocking Miamis longest running underground station 97.7 fm from 1996 to present.They hooked up with a dj from Palm Beach dj named Raylo from Dem Damn Dogs and made some records like ''The Parken Lot'' & numerous remix's that are still played in the clubs to this day!They also expanded their radio network to Ft. Myeres 101.3 fm and Palm Beach's 96.3 fm to promote their records since mainstream radio in Fla had abandoned the South Fla sound. In 2008 there are few djs left rockin this style, Its like dj,s have no idenity, the radio personalitys on the P1 stations in South Fl. all try and have fake New York accents and yet nobody in the streets of South Fl. even talk like that and yet they are on the air dictating what is heard!? Florida is the only place where it is a 3rd degree felony to operate a low power fm station, but yet there are a few pirates left ! Support your local street dj,s where ever you are peace!
