Meet Popa Don: Born and raised on the the mean and grimey streets of Queens in New York City, this man has seen it all. As a young man he watched local hustlers, some friends - some foes trying to make ends meet by any means necessary. Popa Don skilled his craft as a rapper to find a legal way out. At the tender age of fifteen, Popa Don asked his grandfather for 10,000 to give to his manager to start his music career. In turn his manager stole the funds. Not concerned with what the "right thing to do" would be, Popa Don began what he acknowledges now as a "short crime spree". "I had to get my grandfather his money back... He was talking to me as if I was not his grandson". The feeling of debt to his grandfather's act of support is what led this young black man to the cold and harsh corridors of Rikers Island Criminal Facility as well as other numerous New York State Criminal Facilities. After a seven and a half sentence, Popa Don has been waiting to speak his mind and tell today's youth about his life and what he has seen. "I'm not here to rap about clothes, cars, money or girls, I'm here to let these kids see the reality of what can happen if you don't make the right decisions". While Incarcerated, Popa Don did not like or believe what he was hearing on the radio coming out the mouths of some rap artists. "I prayed one night for God to instill in me a different style that would catch the attention of today's youth"."That's when I started singing". With a sharp rhyming style and sinister baritone voice Popa Don drops knowledge as well as pain like no one else in the game. Popa Don manages to convey both deep sorrow and uneasy anger simultaneously, while he sings his hard verses as well as his hooks. He strikes fear, awe, and compassion from the listener and like any artist who is true to the game, lays his damaged soul out for the world to see and hear. Two weeks after being released from his prison sentence, Popa Don and his brother went to see this young lady his brother was dating which lead to a confrontation with local neighborhood thugs. Resulted in Popa Don getting shot five times and his brother fatally wounded. "I was considered dead at the hospital and brought back to life three times... I'm a fighter and I'm here for a reason". Popa Don is ready to drop his lyrical skills which project a harsh reality that he believes the wonderful world of rap. Craving for a leader who is not afraid to change the rules of Hip-Hop and R&B. Still residing in Queens, this hungry MC/Crooner is on the verge of unveiling and is preparing to share what he says God has blessed him with, which is another chance to touch the needy soul of the ghetto.
