About Me

Some of you may remember Avatar from their inception in 2001. You may remember the showing off, the in-fighting or indeed the general trend towards lethargy. You may also remember Avatar finally splitting up in 2004.

Well, we're back. Kind of.

Not content with recent levels of high-productivity and bandmates who are easy to get on with, we've decided to get back to doing what we do best - fall out with each other. To date, Avatar have a recorded 3,257 fights (estimates put that figure somewhere in the region of 10,000). Rumours are also afoot that Andrew plans to decapitate Bobby on-stage, with a flying MicroKorg of death.

Update: All the band's music - a remaster of the original demo, live tracks and even a bunch of stuff from last week's rehearsal - is available for download at Robin's mp3 archive..

Virtualising part 3

The next thing to try was conecting a keyboard up to the laptop. So I installed a MIDI interface (ie. a M-Audio Midisport 2 x 2 usb MIDI interface) and hooked up the MicroKorg to use as a MIDI keyboar...

Virtualising part 2

Since I had a couple of hours of recordings from rehearsals to play with this week, and we didn't have any keyboards at the rehearsals, I decided to experiment with the virtual synthesisers. We're pla...

Conceptual Continuity

While I was posting the last blog, I re-read the "nomenclature" thing that Bobby had re-posted from our original website. It was probably written when we'd knocked together just about enough songs for...

Virtualising...

Having sorted the guitar & amp out, the keyboard setup's the next thing to fix. The old MicroKorg's seen better days and, besides, we've been using a lot of virtual synths recently that sound much...

More volume please...

I'd always loved the sound of my little Marshall DSL40 combo, especially live where I thought it routinely made mincemeat of a lot of big expensive stacks - although that's almost entirely down to the...

We’re back!

Apparently. We're rehearsing; remembering most of the old tunes; writing new bits to replace the bits we've either forgotten or never really liked very much in the first place; and a gig or two on the...
