About Me
"...had the life of at least five humans and lived his life the way we all wanted to." (quote from a dear friend)
Aaron Robert Wilkinson was born on November 8, 1976 in Englewood, Colorado and died on July 2, 2003 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the first-born, most precious son of Dennis and Linda Wilkinson, cherished and adored brother of Graham and Sarah, and beloved grandson of Alma Thompson.
Aaron graduated from Commerce High School in1995 and Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas in 1999 with a B.A. in Philosophy and German. He studied at Karl-Franzens University in Graz, Austria in a Junior year abroad program. During his summers, he dedicated many years serving as a youth counselor at SEEK Camp, a United Methodist church camp for kids with special needs; did mission work in Haiti; worked as a counselor at Camp Aldersgate Medical Camp; and labored in the corn fields of Iowa and apple orchards of Wisconson. For the past three years, Aaron lived life to the fullest as a singer/songwriter and guitar player in the East Village of New York City. Drama was also an interest of his as he acted in high school and college theatre and had begun some acting in New York in short films and as an extra in television. Aaron was a talented, creative writer of not only songs but also poetry, prose, and short stories.
A memorial gathering was held in New York City on July 7th at the Sidewalk Cafe where Aaron had worked. The cafe was packed with family, friends, and fellow artists who spoke of their love for Aaron, the light and joy he was in their lives, and the love and music he shared so unconditionally with them.
In Wichita Falls, a memorial service will be held on Friday, July 11th at 2 pm at Floral Heights United Methodist Church. Aaron's father, the Reverend Dennis Wilkinson, and his family will be leading a service of remembrance and celebration. A reception will be held afterwards at the church and then at the Wilkinson home from 5-8 pm.
Aaron left behind a close and loving family, hundreds of friends, and wonderful songs, but is not gone. He will live in our hearts forever.
Memorials may be made to SEEK Camp of the North Texas Conference United Methodist Church.
