About Me

Chéri is an exciting new musical based on the classic French novel by Colette. Michael Yale has written the libretto and Charlie Round-Turner has composed the music.Chéri tells the story of a Lea, a beautiful 50 year old Parisian ex courtesan and her lover Chéri; 30 years her junior and strikingly handsome. Set in Paris during the last years of La Belle Époque just prior to the outbreak of WW1, it's a story about ageing and the complexities of love and sex, and whilst being witty, sexy and shocking it also profoundly moving. The full 18 strong song score is influenced by music of the time; waltz, chanson and the darker tango.First published in 1920, "Cheri" is considered Colette's finest novel. It did, however, cause considerable controversy at the time, both in its choice of setting - the fabulous demi-monde of the Parisian courtesans - and in its portrayal of the exquisitely handsome, spoilt and sardonic Cheri. Critics hailed the novel as a triumph."Cheri is her masterpiece."--The New Republic"Dramatic and moving . . . [Cheri] endears itself partly because of its subject, but more because of the manner of its telling."--The New York Times.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4 ********************************************************** ABOVE : SONG SHOWCASE at THE BATTERSEA BARGE 2007 ********************************************************** BELOW : NEW DEMO RECORDING SESSIONS 08/09 ********************************************************** ******************************************************* BELOW : SUMMER WORKSHOPS 2009 ******************************************************
