Sounds Like:
Here's what some lucky TROPHIES listeners had to say:"So many different annoying sounds, all conflicting with each other. I just wanted it to end as soon as it started."
- TypeF (murray, kentucky), garageband.com"Give it up everything is totally confusing. The Sex Pistols did not know how to play there instruments very well please make a change and learn yours....
- outerlimitz (pearland, texas), garageband.comFrom Southeast Portland’s “Felony Flats†comes the eight song recording of Trophies, a self-described Post-Spanish House-core band. The four-piece shakes out with gritty, greasy jean jacket rock repleat with crunchy chords and a range of guitarship that approaches near noodling proportions before remitting to slow and swanky hip swivels. But in the drop of a hat, a new sound jumps up. Bordering on emo at times without ever jumping headlong, there’s even moments out the gate of Oingo Boingo-like pop zaniness. Track 2 has a feel of And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead as “Sea life is not the life for me†is chanted.
...the album presents distinct textures otherwise flushed out in an assault of live shredding. The great thing about Yay!!! is the earnest approach. Rock is at the forefront and trying to be something it ain’t never seems to be an option for these lads. Trophies are one of those bands who are creating their world and not giving a damn if you like it or not. Finally a Portland band happy about the rich music scene here. How refreshing.
- Angelo De Ieso II (portland, oregon), poptomorrow.com"too much effects on the guitar. I felt like I was listening to sonic youth. I never got hooked..."
- uselessbass. (sandy, oregon), garageband.com"You play the same theme too much. You need to change up what you are playing to keep the listener interested. You play with feedback a lot; however, I don't think it is helping the song at all."
- oden (memphis, tn), garageband.com"Rush's Singer Plays for Superchunk...
- sprrwfrnht (alberta, canada), garageband.com
"Not bad, but not what I would call fantastic either."
- WickedWizard (Orillia, Ontario, Canada), garageband.com"You guys are the toughest band I have had to work with..."
- Sound Guy Shane @ Red Room (Portland, Oregon)
Record Label: "no, still a band, but thanks for asking...again."
