Indulge me, and imagine, if you will, that the Squirrel Nut Zippers and Elton John had a baby. Now imagine that G. love and the Beatles had one too.
Well, one day, down at the beach, maybe at the "record" store, Elton Zippers and Beatlove, met by chance; accidentally touching hands as they both reached for a pristine copy of Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" album. "Excuse me", "No, excuse me" they each said, but neither let go. It was love at first sight, and these crazy kids spent every single breathing second together from this moment on.
Not long after, they jumped in Elton's 1970 Dodge Dart, with that slant six engine that will just never die, and they cruised the country. In the dusty summer heat, speeding through the desert, they cranked the Violent Femmes, with the windows rolled down, sweating and singing like a blister in the sun.
In the evening, camping under the stars between the high canyon walls, they often huddled close, falling asleep to masters Ray Charles or Chet Baker. But just as often, they listened to nothing, save the stream not far way, just down the slope and over the rocks.
Well, sure enough, Elton Zippers and Beatlove had a baby. Whether they decided to or not, I don't know, but these things happen. They decided to name the child jon, maybe after a Beatle, maybe after the pope, maybe both. Either way, he was raised with the deep love of all kinds of music. Music was in his veins, and the beat was his heart. He grew up and found there was no other way, no other choice but to play music to feel right, and to make things right. Well, their story is his story, and after a long journey, the Jon Garner Trio was born.
at least that's how I heard it told.
Formed in a crater of molten magma 10,000,000 years ago...... on a distant planet......in an ancient galaxy.....on a tuesday......
