There are places in New York where the Jazz circuit is all word by mouth and amongst the unaware customers of these clubs mingle the singers and musicians. Nikoleta made her first appearance at one of these joints, the upper east colonial Nicholson Restaurant. Her honeyed lyrics quickly spread in all those moody backroom bars, snaring the likes of Warren Vache, Frank Wess, Ron Jackson and Howard Alden - of recent Sweet and Low-down, Woody Allen fame. They called her "honey blossom", after all there is something reminiscent of Blossom Dearie in her; at times Billy Holiday at her simplest. Nikoleta is a true cocktail both in her talents and her background, a "real mess" as her fellow musicians put it. Born in Rome, half German, half Serbian and raised in Switzerland, she is a true citizen of the world, artist without borders.
In 2003, Nikoleta moved from New York to Madrid where she quickly conquered a Spanish and international audience who follow her regular jazz gigs, craving for her maple syrup voice and humorous lyrics. Featuring at top clubs such as "Clamores", "Berlin Cafe", "Boca del Lobo", Nikoleta is always accompanied by some of the finest musical talent in the likes of Pepe Torres, Antonio Serrano, Borja Barueja and Dan Rochlis. It is not surprising that Nikoleta regularly gets invited back to New York spotlight where she will always love to shine. Nikoleta brings storytelling and humor back to standards that too often today evoke only reference. For her a song is a fable, everyday life made simple, a packet of advice with no solution but sweet emotion.
