About Me

HEAR "PICTURE OF THE SUN" IN ITS ENTIRITY:
Jud Vandy is 23 years old and has been recording his own music since he was 15. Picture Of The Sun is his attempt at a lush, colourful, alternative pop album and was recorded on an analogue four-track tape recorder (a Tascam 424 Mk III) with a set of drum mics lent to him by a friend. Jud has always been into the lo-fi aesthetic popularised by Nirvana and lived, breathed and shat by The Moldy Peaches, and took the album, Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, by The Beatles as a sign that anything was possible if you had the drive and the imagination. The final burst of inspiration to record his first, proper, album came shortly after hearing "Where The Humans Eat" by Willy Mason. Realising that Willy was just 19 when he recorded his debut, Jud decided to "get a move on" and record his own, regardless of the fact that he owned very little audio equipment. It was recorded in the summer of 2006, and Jud rallied up almost every musician he could think of to play on the album. Although the songs are entirely of his own composition, the musicians involved often add their own layers of colour and texture to create a deep and vibrant sound. Jud currently lives and plays live in Cornwall, England. He is saving up funds to record his next album. (If you wish to book him, please send him a message or an email to: [email protected])

Now he’s decided to go solo and with some very interesting results. His debut album, Picture Of The Sun, self-recorded on four-track, has just been released. This is sunshine slacker pop that recalls Syd Barret if he fronted an even more lackadaisical Dinosaur Jr. The title track sounds like Sebadoh with added bar-room piano while the rhythmic Jellybaby is as lysergic as prime-time Julian Cope. Elsewhere, the Robyn Hitchcock psycho-babble pop of Lights From St Ives is a winner. The just-got-up yawn of Jud's voice perfectly suits the lazy vibes of the music." - Lee Trewhela, The West Briton
