The Blue Ribbon Jug Band is based out of Chicago and currently building a strong repertoire of 1920-30s Pre-War jug band tunes along with some more contemporary songs. By means of traditional stringed and home-made (classic jug band) instruments, the Blue Ribbon Jug Bands aims to bewilder you with their driving force rhythm section and improving harmonies. We're not having fun unless you're not having fun. Please enjoy.
Crockett, The Spitz, and Sweet Willie met while playing music at the Old Town School of Folk in an ensemble that performs as The Hump Night Thumpers . While enjoying the experience of playing great jug band music with great people in a large group, the three decided to forgo the class and try jamming in a smaller group on a weekly basis. Sean Heneghan (of indie rock notoriety) managed to become jug-washed by the other 3 and began hosting weekly "Jug Jamz" in his living room. What you hear in our music player are some of the single mic (bluegrass style) mixed Jug Jamz from May 2007.
Our philosophy has always been get good people together, have a good time and hopefully create some good music. We jam on a weekly basis and plan to soon take the Chicago open mic scene by storm. Recently we added three members, "The Rhythm Ninjas," Big Bill Hummel on washtub bass and Ryan Thomas (The Chairman) on the washboard. And Jed "Dead Zed" Enlow on the high harmonies.
Our sound is coming along and rounding out with the addition of the Rhythm Ninjas, unfortunately, we have not recorded any practice sessions with them yet, but please stay tuned! Our most important guiding principle is to have fun while playing what once was dubbed "The World's Happiest Music." It may not always sound the prettiest but we will always stay true to our mantra while achieving jug band zen.
please remain calm, what you are experiencing may be STRONG & WRONG
