The Funk of Forty Thousand Years started in August 2007 in Michigan. The core mission is to deliver live organic funk and soul to the masses. As the band sound matured, sprinkles of jazz improvisation started to percolate and are now a permanent fixture. Yasin Jackson has been writing and singing for many years and pounced on the opportunity to join the band. Her voice has been compared to Carole King, Erykah Badu and others. Her lyrics and vocal scats provide plenty of food for thought. Bassist Michael P. Jackson is the main composer and brought the band together. He started playing music at the age of 8, learning clarinet. Through the years he has learned many instruments including alto, tenor, and berry sax. At age 19 a date with a bass would change things forever. The Funk of Forty Thousand Years features one of the hottest rhythm sections on the scene today. In February 2008 the band completed the 2008 RPM Challenge to write, record, mix, master and press an album of 100% original material in one month. The album “One Foot†is available at all shows and will be on itunes in the coming months. The band has set its sights on every town needing some funk East of the Mississippi and plans a West Coast stint in late 2008. The Funk of Forty Thousand Years makes its NYC Manhattan debut on May 26th.
