Pop rock purveyor Matthew Thomas writes music with the widespread appeal of mainstream pop but with sensibilities and intelligence that lends it depth that goes far beyond what the radio typically broadcasts. Music covers the whole range of human thoughts and feelings and somewhere out there is a song to fit every mood you may find yourself caught up in. “I find that music fits my mood. It can be happy, sad, in love, angry. I appreciate music that tells a story and even better when I can relate to that story.” Here, Thomas hits upon what makes his music so appealing. It’s easy to feel alone in the world and one thing music does is form a sense of community that reaches across boundaries of distance. “I think music is a way of letting other people know they aren’t alone in this big world. When you have a bad day, someone else is having, will have or has had a similar experience. Music is proof that life goes on but also serves as a time capsule for memories.”
Musical Knowledge
Thomas’s familiarity and love of all forms of music leaves him artistically educated and with a strong sense of musical awareness. This enables him, in his own songwriting, to provide more depth. The textures of a Thomas song are sometimes stunning and always enlightening. “I listen to all types of music. I like anything with a good beat, talented singer and/or musicians and a song that evokes emotion.” Which means that he was a fan approaching his own music, he’d love it.
