the sex cult - remains (bulform records, 2007)the new release by the sex cult, signed on bulform records, adds an "old"
but fresh air to the stagnaiton of the last technocrat producers.
the members of this duo, an indian-canadian student of philosophy and a new
yorker coming from hip hop, made a new statement to the contemporary
roads of music, though they may not even know it.
such chaotic beginning as "hallo" and its annoying reproduction of a
hellicopter by a 303 bassline simulation an its freaking screams create
a subnormal delivery for what it is yet to come.
if sex cult were born in europe in the 50's, they would have been
worshipped as stockhausen fellows an put in the same pedestal.
but in the late 80's, when they produced this material (1989), their
sound was way too offbeat and avant garde for their time, which was
blasted off by the poppy tunes of orbital or the million pounds selling singles
by the klf.
nonetheless, their work is not reluctant to eating from the cannibal
charts of three minute radio pop songs -except that their's last 10 minutes,
changing something completely normal into an unlisteneable and senseless kind of
hypnotic sounds, only to find out that in the last two minutes of the song
you can get the keys to understand it all.
for long time with no signature by a record company, finally
bulform records, from montreal, canada, dares to release a much expected act
that is widely remebered for their live shows.
a new generation may meet this infamous duo that took 15 years
to see the light, but still... "remains" in darkness.
