Brazilian Scandinavian Jazz Orchestra

About Me

In October 2006, eight musicians from the Danish big band The Orchestra arrived in São Paulo to play with ten musicians from the Bissamblazz Brazilian Ensemble.

The new band, under the artistical leadership by Lars Møller and Magno Bissoli, rehearsed for three days and proceeded to play three concerts, two of them recorded live.
The compositions is mainly made by Jesper Riis, Kasper Wagner, Lars Møller and Magno Bissoli.
On this video you see the musicians at the very first rehearsal in São Paulo, October 2006 working on the theme of Suite Brazil composed and directed by Lars Moller. Read about the composition in lyrics - the link in the audioplayer in the top of this page

In July 2007 the orchestra performed in Scandinavia:
Fr 13. July 20:00; Nefertiti, Göteborg .
Sa 14. July 21:00; Cosmopolite, Oslo .
Su 15. July 21:30; Copenhagen Jazz House as a part of Copenhagen Jazz Festival .
Mo 16. July 20:30; Posten, Odense .
Tu 17. July 15:00; Musikhuset Aarhus as a part of Aarhus International Jazz Festival.

During the tour a new album was released. The album conveys the magic shared by these musicians as they traversed cultural boundaries on a journey into music.
The initiative came originally from Magno Bissoli, who by this project fullfilled a long-term dream of gathering Danish based musicians and Brazilian musicians from his big network of excellent artist from both worlds. With help from Ib Jensen, the tour manager of the Swinging Europe - the European Youth Jazz Orchestra and Lars Thorborg from the Copenhagen Jazz House he succeded to establish this new great adventure.

The orchestra has kindly been and is supported by following contributers: Brazilian Culture Ministry, Nordic Cultural Foundation, Nordea Danmark-fonden, Danish Jazz Federation, The Art Foundation of Denmark, The Danish Conductors Association, Danish Musicians Union, The Danish Art Council and Ben Websters Fond.
