About Me

I was born on 16 September '85 in Belgium, in a town called Veurne. As a kid I could not sit still, I was taking lessons ballet, modern dancing, music school, swimming, water ballet, drawing. I studied 'design clothes' till I was 18 years old. In secondary school, I was playing guitar and cello, classical music and I had some African percussion lessons. After secondary school I did two years of classical guitar with Raphaella Smits, and cello with Hans Mannes and Yves Jaap Kruithof. I played in several orchestras, groups and one of them is the symphonic orchestra from the Lemmensinstituut in Belgium. That was magical. Dangerous Liaisons?! There I first feld the magic of the bass! hm.. :) But I was still playing the cello. The summer after the first year in the lemmensinstituut, I started to play the double bass on a workshop in Dworp, a town near Brussels. Fantastic summer courses! And I never stopped.. After one year of working on my own to know the bass better, I changed my classical studies in school into studying jazz, improvisation. A had two years with Jos Machtel, the bass player from the famous Brussels Big Band from Belgium (BJO) and after Nicolas Thys was my teacher. A very known bass player in and out of Belgium. He still is my teacher, but this year I'm studying with Anders Jormin in Göteborg, as an exchange student. He is the bass player from Bobo Stenson trio and many more. Very impressing! A nice school and a lot of inspiration. It's hard, but I'm glad that I'm here. Of course I miss the music in Belgium, the people and my friends there, but don't worry, I come back ;) I think.. ;) (joke) Love you!
