About Me

Colm Murphy comes from a very musical family in Castlemartyr, Co. Cork. His earliest talents were channelled into the violin, bodhran and the piano, before mastering the fiddle. He is based in Southampton, UK where he currently teaches Chemistry at a Sixth Form College. Colm is a very active professional musician with particular interest in performing and recording acoustic music. Although a full-time teacher, he has managed to travel to festivals across the UK, Europe, North America and Canada playing music with the Celtic/Jazz influenced band Broderick. For the past number of summers he has based himself in Cork performing with the show Dancing through the Ages with the house band Dearga. In addition to playing tradition Irish music he extensively tours the UK moonlighting in bands such as the The Arnie Cottrell Trio (roots and blues), Contraband (bluegrass), Louche Manouche (jazz manouche) and the Sonny Black Blues Band. He is also in demand around the South of England as a session recording artist and delivers tuition on violin/fiddle at home and at the Traditional Music Academy at South Hill Park, Bracknell.
