About Me

Hi there, we are Lopez, a 3-piece hip-hop/disco/boogie/whatever you want to call it outfit from Paraguay (although Cosmo is now living in London). We have been djing and making music for about 5 years now and we have just been signed to the lovely Keep Up! records to release our tunes on wax. So far we have put out one tune on the first release (a double a-side with the mighty Tom Central), a latin head-nodder discoy number called Donde which got great reception (Number 1 record on Juno-Broken Beat/Breaks/Funk, Pick of the Week at Fatcity and Recommended single of the month on IDJ-Leftfield/Beats.)
We are also on the new Keep Up! release, this second 7" features us collaborating with French funkmeister supreme Ave Blaste on a tune called 'Drakefield Soul' which is a disco-not-disco bomb with heavy influences from Patrick Adams and Larry Heard as well as The Herbaliser and DJ Harvey. That is side A, side B is a nasty 95 bpm instrumental hip-hop dancefloor destroyer with a HUGE bassline that samples one of our favourite latin producers. This last track is called 'Barrio' and it's been getting play from everyone from Mr Scruff to Simbad, Dom Servini and Nightmares on wax. Here are some of the reviews we got so far:
Mr Scruff: "Barrio is a prime slice of summertime wobblage"
Jazzanova"Both tunes sound really fresh. The A fits to the B fits to the C...."
Toddla T says about Barrio .... ''Can I feel it? Yeah my chest is hurting from that bassline'
George Evelyn from Nightmares on Wax: "Lovin this! Sunshine beats all the way,Hooray!!! Don't know how I missed 001!"
Dr Rubberfunk (Jalapeno Records, GPS Recordings): "The Keep Up kids do it again with another pair of surefire midtempo bangers. Drakefield Soul is a classy 60s soul piano workout with a hint of disco"
Hint (Tru Thoughts): "Both great summer tracks. Barrio is my favourite. Chunky and soulful - I can imagine it ringing out over a few sun-drenched fields this festival season!"
Simbad: "Been playin Barrio a bit, bad ass lil' tune & really good vibes on da floor, chartin' & playin' on da Radio 2, full reeeeeeeesepect !"
Wrongtom (Hard Fi..s DJ): Drakefield Soul: "Good gosh - latino jazz twisted into spaced out disco until it becomes my idea of a perfect record! i badly need a solid copy of this"
Jon Kennedy says ... "very cool stuff indeed ! this needs to be vinylised"
DJ Woody: "Love it, great records, definitely play them out."
Smoove (Acid Jazz) says ... "I'm really feelin this release both sides rock to maximum effect!"
:)
