About Me
The most successful contemporary Greek song writer and producer, Phoebus, was born on New Year’s Day in 1971, in Athens. He first got into music during his school years when as a drummer in a rock band – genuinely expressing his generation- he experimented with the music fads of the time.Despite his effortless entry into University in one of the top spots of the Athens Law School, the prospect of following a career in law failed to deter Phoebus from his passionate involvement in music and thus he began to compose his first songs. While studying harmony and music at the Conservatory and taking private tutorials by Themis Roussos, he started writing his first lyrics. His talent quickly came to the fore, aged only 22 he singed his first contract with a record label.Already at the start of the second decade of his amazing career, Phoebus has pulled off a remarkable record accomplishment. With over 18 gold LP's and cd singles, 19 platinum, 11 albums that are two times platinum, 2 four times platinum and 1 six times platinum albums under his belt – that is, more than 3,500,000 units sold overall- he has achieved phenomenal status in the Greek music history.Phoebus has shown remarkable ability in crafting popular music trends with his groundbreaking ideas as well as in bringing new talent into the spotlight. No wonder the biggest stars of the Greek music scene rely on his knowledge, his instinct and his unique talent in order to ensure their albums will reach the top spot of the Greek charts!Apart from writing and composing, Phoebus, almost exclusively, programs, orchestrates and produces his albums. His ingenious producing abilities have broken new ground while he has gone on to sign the highest contracts with all of the record labels he has worked with; starting off with Sony Music, moving on to MINOS-EMI and finally signing on to Heaven Music. In the summer of 2001, Phoebus’ career took off as he gained international recognition when he received, along with Despina Vandi, the award for the best selling album of the year in Greece for the CD single ‘Ipofero’ (…I’m suffering), awarded to him by the director of the Virgin Megastores in London, Sir Richard Branson.Since then, international recognition keeps rolling in… Globally renowned composer and producer Desmond Child recognizes his unique talent and, in the summer of 2002, goes on to collaborate with him on the Sakis Rouvas’ album, which was released by Universal France. On the 6th of March 2002, Phoebus and Despina Vandi, receive yet another honour, this time on a global scale. They pick up the “World’s Best selling Greek Artist 2001’ award (for the sales of the album ‘Gia’) in the World Music Awards, one of the most significant institutions of the global record industry that yearly awards artists with the highest record sales in the world. The greatest, global success of Phoebus, to date, came shortly ago with the song “GIAâ€. Having gone multi-platinum in the Greek market, the song, written & composed by Phoebus, and performed by Despina Vandi, broke into the international music scene, over the past summer, and assumed prime position in the playlists of celebrated DJs and clubs worldwide. “Gia†performed the impossible by reaching the No1 spot in both the USA and the UK (according to the official Billboard and Music Week charts), managing to knock international hits off the top spot! Since then, it has been released, as a CD single in Europe, the USA, Australia, Turkey and Northern Africa while it has been included in more than 120 compilations, worldwide. In the spring of 2004, a great musical collaboration unfolds as Phoebus teams up with Coca-Cola.
