SEVERNIE VRATA

About Me

Severnie Vrata is the leader pagan metal band in Russia. It was created in 1997 by Alexander Nevsky (guitars, vocals) and Nikita Parshikov (bass). As a base was taken pagan mythology and believes, reconstructed melodies, not from the traditional folk only, but from real pagan past. The lyrics have the words and meanings from old language and written in a way of modern saga. The style of the band is changing from album to album mixing pagan heart with different kind of metal, because music is colors for state and feeling; to be pagan doesn’t mean always play folk. In 2000 Severnie Vrata signed a contract with Russian record company Fono and released debut E.P. “Otchizna”. It was 6 tracks of brutal and true pagan music recorded live with computer drums. In 2001 followed the album “Na voinu” had became a classic of Russian pagan metal. Origin of an album is in arrangements and melodic. The guitars imitate folk instruments instead of using keyboards for that. In 2003 released a third album “Prav..” recorded in Finland at Astia studio “A” by Anssi Kippo, and so-produced with him. It is really good quality record music and arrangements with balalaika and much known Russian song “Polushko-pole”. The forth album “Ravnovesie” have been released in 2005 and recorded at Fantom Pain studio in st.Petersburg, mixed at Astia studio by Anssi Kippo, produced by Igor Anokhin. It is sounds more like pagan thrash&death metal and tell about us in the end of the times. All this years, Severnie Vrata was touring in Russia and Belarus have concerts as single, as with many different artists. Most known is King Diamond (2001), Cradle of Filth(2003), Finntroll, Norther, Ensiferum and others.
“Volot” is the fifth album from the originators of Russian Pagan/Folk Metal, a legandary band from North of Russia, SEVERNIE VRATA. This album is the follow-up of their 2005’s brutal and innovative album “Ravnovesie”, and the continuation of the band’s career development: from raw, yet filled with Nordic melodics, debut “FatherLand”, through more hit-oriented release “To The War” (2001), towards technically advaned album “Prav”(2002). The new offering of SEVERNIE VRATA entitled “Volot” (Warrior) is full of heathen atmosphere, music and imagery of northern desolate lands, created by philosophical lyrics written by Alexander Nevsky. Clear and powerfull guitars, dynamic bass lines, striking drums, atmospheric keyboards of the album are the results of a stunning work of a famous Finnish producer Anssi Kippo. “Volot” was recorded at Astia Studio (Lappeenranta, Finland) and Phantom Pain studio (St. Petersburg, Russia), mixed at Astia Studio A (CHILDREN OF BODOM, NORTHER, IMPALED NAZARENE), and mastered at SonicHouse TM in fall 2008. SEVERNIE VRATA were formed in 1997 by Alexander Nevsky and Nikita Parshikov. Their debut disc “FatherLand” instantly brought them a success in Russia. With a release of “To The War”, which shortly became a classic album at Russian Pagan Metal scene, they established themselves as a leading force of the genre and generated countless amount of followers. SEVERNIE VRATA gigs are great shows, always “a night to rememeber” for their fans.
