About Me

Art, aka "ArtSap", has been playing music in the SF Bay Area for over 35 years. Known as a "solid in the pocket bassist", he began his musical journey in the late 60's playing soul, R&B and latin music - moving into funk, disco, soft rock, fusion and even ballroom music throughout the following years.
During the 90's Art began playing Hawaiian music with a local hula halau (school), performing throughout the SF Bay Area and in hula and Tahitian competitions as well. Currently he performs with various "Island Style" bands and local hula halau and is also an active participant in many of the area's kanikapila (jams) and open mike sessions.
Music is a constant in Art's life and serves as his release from the rigors and stress of the corporate world. And he believes that - "The real music comes from within you - not from the instrument" ---

Influences: I've been blessed to have led such a wonderful and fulfilling life thus far and I thank the Lord for everything he's given me, especially MY FAMILY. My wife, children, son-in-law and grandchildren are my world - they are my center - and they make my life richer. They are, and have always been, the main influence and driving force in my LIFE. And of course there are my Mom, Pop and siblings? If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be who I am today (Is that a good thing? LOL). I LOVE YOU ALL!

My biggest MUSICAL influences have been my brothers and sisters from "The Mellow Sounds", "ERA", "Sweet P" and "A Touch Of Polynesia". They are my musical family and have played a major role in my musical birth, growth and development. Throughout the years I've also been inspired by the many talented individuals and groups from the SF Bay Area and Hawaii and they continue to be a major contributor to my musical education.

And because I'm a bassist, I've naturally been influenced by the likes of Larry Graham, Francis Rocco Prestia, Verdine White, Stanley, Jaco and countless others. I've also gotten inspiration from musicians - male and female alike - who play other instruments and various styles of music; drummers, guitarists (standard, slack and steel), keyboardists, ukulele players and horn players. And I certainly can't leave out singers, rappers (my son - Mac Dame, with GO BIGG) and dancers of all forms, including hula (my son - Art, with the Academy of Hawaiian Arts). Many of these individuals are listed as my "Friends" and they're all artists with something to say and I thank them for sharing their message.
