About Me

Hello, I'm singer/songwriter Vince Schreck. I live in Portland, Oregon, and I don't mind the rain. Okay, I'm not a full-time musician. I have a doctorate in Educational Leadership, and basically, I sit in front of a computer all day putting college courses on the Internet. Technically, that makes me an Instructional Designer. I prefer to think of myself as a singer/songwriter though...

Thanks for visiting my "MySpace" page. Hope you enjoy the music samples. If you hear something you like, please feel free to use my online store to buy as many tracks, or complete records as you like. I appreciate the business! I've been under the influence of punk/indie music for the last 20+ years. Some of my favorite bands are:

Hardcore/Punk: Fugazi, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Minor Threat, Agnostic Front, MIA, Cro-Mags.

Weird/Experimental: Sonic Youth, Butthole Surfers, Massive Attack, Causey Way, Ex-Girl, Beastie Boys.

Newer Bands: Modest Mouse, Sleater Kinney, The Evens, At The Drive-In, Mars Volta, Sparta, Slim Cessna's Auto Club.

Folkie: Ani DiFranco, Beth Orton, Bob Dylan,

80s Indie Favs: The Call, Camper Van Beethoven, The Cult, The Cure, INXS, Dinasaur Jr., Hoodoo Gurus., Minute Men.

Alt. Country: Uncle Tupelo, Beat Farmers, Green on Red, The Silos, Cracker, Del Fuegos.

Classic: Pink Floyd, Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Van Halen

My Interests

Music:

Influences:

"It either rocks, or it doesn't." Eddie Van Halen

I'm not a music-snob. If it's good music, I like it. See "about me" section for some of my perennial favorites (punk/indie/hardcore/cow-punk/Americana, experimental, etc.).

Sounds Like: While I mainly listen to indie, punk and harcore, my music has often been compared to: The Violent Femmes, alt-country bands, and even the Allman brothers. I'll leave it up for you to judge.
Record Label: Gutwrench Records

Lyric Excerpts - Enjoy!

From the recording&SET IN STONEEpic: EDITOR'S NOTE...This is not a religious song, if anything it's anti-religion. I stole a bunch of lines from a (crazy-drunk) college roommate having an argument w...

One For the Yogis

In the summer of 2000, a good friend of mine suggested I try taking up yoga.  I instantly thought of the shame and embarrassment my father would feel, being the man's-man he is.  However, I needed som...

Why You Should Buy My Music

Why should you buy my music?  I've been making music and records for 20 years.  I don't think I've ever promoted myself.  For the most part, I've practically given away every CD I've ...

Meeting REM

In 1985, I introduced my oldest sister Helen to REM's music.  Specifically, I think the album was "Life's Rich Pageant."  We were both hooked on the (now) classic songs: Flowers of Guatemala...
